This evening, immediately after work, I will be meeting up with a few of my sorority sisters for dinner and drinks and I couldn’t be more ecstatic. I’m so excited that I might have been counting down to this very day since Monday. Yeah, pretty excited! A similar gathering occurred this past weekend when I met up with former co-workers turned real-life girlfriends to hit up a winery, chat about our lives and discuss taking over the world.
You see, getting together with my respective groups of #girlgangs doesn’t happen very often. We all have so much going on – whether its a full workload, travel, juggling kids, planning weddings or all of the above. However, since moving back to VA from AZ, I’ve learned the need and importance of setting up women-only dates on a regular basis. It’s good for the soul, right in between “me” time and date nights for parents. I consider the time with my girls a revitalizing and intoxicating experience and it gives me a chance to get their insights, empathy and counsel on the madness that is going on in my life. And I offer them the same solace.
I wouldn’t know how to navigate my life without the guidance I receive from the women I choose to surround myself with. They are the mirrors in my life that remind me of the version of my self before being a wife, an employee or a mother. You know, the real me. They tell me, truthfully, when I’m about to make a bad decision on something and celebrate with me when things are good. There’s something special about the bond between women who love and respect one another, and I leverage that bond when I’m out of alignment and need the world to make sense again.
So we meet tonight, where I can gossip as much as I want, eat a meal without a child on my lap and can later return home fully recharged until my soul craves that estrogen specific TLC again. But it won’t be too long until I get my fix. Next weekend we’re packing up and going south to celebrate a bachelorette! Just you wait, they’ll probably be another love letter to my girlfriends in about two weeks time;)
