In these uncertain times, I think it’s especially important to celebrate the happy moments that we’re experiencing in our lives. Something I’ve been asking myself lately is, “What makes me happy?” Think about it, what makes you genuinely happy? We’re all feeling trapped and discouraged right now – by this “new normal”, our ever-growing to-do lists – it’s all unknown.

Personally, I’m really struggling to prioritize as I constantly feel torn between working from home and giving attention to my family and myself. It’s a battle I know that I’ll never win but it’s something that really takes a toll on my mental health. In an attempt to set my priorities straight, the question, “What makes me happy?” has been a good touchstone. In no particular order, here’s my list:

  1. Exercising
  2. Pizza and family movie night.
  3. Watching the kids do crafts.
  4. Daily walks.
  5. Finally mastering my head wrapping skills!
  6. Watching Theo sing-along to Frozen II
  7. Mentally planning future vacations.
  8. Getting dressed up.
  9. TikTok.
  10. Chalk art.

Sure, some of these things may seem selfish, especially in the world we’re currently living, but I think we have to take what we can get. As we enter into a new week of what seems like never-ending days, it is really important for me to focus on my list. It keeps me motivated, keeps me sane, and helps me to see clearly. I implore you to mentally create a list of your own. Ask yourself, what makes you happy?
