Here’s to a Fresh Start

Going into the new year with a fresh start, and that’s exciting! See ya never, 2020!

So, I got a new job! Hurray! There’s *actually* something for me to be excited about come 2021! Trust me when I say I’m not going to count my eggs before they hatch, BUT I haven’t had much to be excited about so let me live in it for a while. Eeek!

Last week I accepted a job at a PR agency in the city. Yes, I’ll be leaving the marketing arena but Public Relations is something that I’m familiar with  and really enjoy. Plus, it was my concentration in college so it’s nice to be able to actually use my degree. This will be my last week at my current job and I start the new gig the first full week of January.

You may remember me mentioning that I was put as part-time in my current role back in July. It has been a big blow to our household financially, and while I tried to score brand partnerships to make up for the loss income in the interim, we’ve struggled. The main reason we had to pull Theo out of daycare a few months ago was because we couldn’t afford it anymore, especially if we wanted to stay in our townhome. But hopefully soon, he’ll be going back and I cannot be more excited. Having him home has been a hard on me mentally, to say the least.

Not gonna lie, I’m thrilled to be contributing to the household income again. I was feeling rather pathetic there for a second. Not to say part-timers and/or stay-at-home moms don’t contribute, because obviously you do. But I’ve been working since I was 14, and I was the main breadwinner before going part-time, so it was a huge adjustment for me to do less than I’d ever done.

Anyways, this week I’ll be working with my team to transition my duties. However, because I’ve been part-time for almost six months, most everything has already been passed over. My last day is technically January 1 but because my company is closed from Christmas Eve to the new year, everything is going on warp speed and will be closed out by this Wednesday. It’s definitely going to be strange to go back to the office to drop off my equipment and pick up my things.

I’m excited for this new adventure and for a fresh start, especially in the new year. The work culture of my new company seems really tight knit and inviting, and I’m proud about how excited they are to have me join the team. A clean slate is definitely needed going in to 2021. Much of the troubles I experienced in 2020 had to do with my job but I’m excited to be leaving there on good terms. Here’s to new beginnings!
