2020 has been one of the roughest years of my life. And with all my might, I’m sharing some of the things I’m thankful from this past year.

Back in 2014, I used to have a series called Thankful. In it, I would list one thing I was thankful for every day that month. While the post won’t be coming back, I did want to take a page from those days and share a few things I’m thankful for this year.
2020 was a rough one for me, but my experience isn’t unique. Almost everyone I know struggled a little this year. This is why I want to encourage you to make a list of your own and write down what you’re thankful for. Maybe it was the ability to simplify this year because of our circumstances or the fact that you’ve gotten a little more time with immediate family because of quarantine – regardless, jot it down and be thankful!
I originally decided on 10 things to list out. But when push came to shove, I couldn’t come up with that many. Honestly, I’m still having a hard time coping with some of the things that went down this year – from my mom’s death, to a cut in my hours at work, to some health issues I haven’t shared or even acknowledged – I’m still completely wrapped in the 2020 funk. But there has been some good that came out of this year, so here’s my list.
5 Things I’m Thankful for in 2020:
1// The Houseparty app. Sure, there’s Facetime but not everyone has an iPhone. Thankfully, those you want to connect with can jump on the Houseparty app and get chatting “face-to-face”. I’ve chatted with my girlfriends almost everyday since lockdown, and I could never be more thankful for that. They are my sanity.
2// The 2020 election results;) I’m celebrating and if you’re not, I’m sorry. But I believe our county needs new leadership to do their job and lead. There’s going to be a rough road ahead, sure, but I think it’s a step in the right direction.
3// Theo’s laugh. I kid you not, the sound of Theo’s belly laugh will slap a smile on your face instantly. Sure, the cause may be because of something he shouldn’t be doing and he thinks it’s hilarious, but man do I love hearing it.
4// The Audible app. I’ve always loved reading but this year I’ve enjoyed expanding the types of books I add to my list. From self-help to Black authors to skill development, and even some autobiographies, I’ve been taking advantage of the Audible app during my daily walks or chores.
5// Runs with Remy. Before lockdown, we had signed up for a 5K hosted by Remy’s school. Due to all the chaos and quarantine, the 5K obviously didn’t happen but that didn’t deter Remy. Her and I have gone out on runs to “prepare” for next year’s run and I’ve really enjoyed that time spent doing something we both love.
