I’m not my best self today so I’m literally talking you through how I’m planning to turn my day around.

I’m not going to lie, I’m having trouble deciding the topic of today’s post. I could easily fall back on style content, i.e. My Tips for Layering Like a Pro, 4 Tips for Layering this Fall, blah blah blah, but sometimes I can’t fake it. And today seems to be one of those days. Don’t get me wrong, creating those types of posts is something I love – hello, that’s the genesis of this blog – but I also like to share deeper content. If you’re new around here, I’m talking about topics on mental wellness and self care, depression, body image, motherhood, and more.
Today I’m feeling some type of way. Let’s be real, that’s how I’ve been feeling for a while now. And that’s okay. When I’m feeling down, it’s harder for me to come on here and be a ray of sunshine. I would normally say it’s a sign I need to slow down, but with the year we’ve been having slow is pretty much the name of the game. Handling depression during a pandemic has been something to navigate. I can’t deny the fact that I have more bad days than good, but I also can’t dwell on it. That’s what keeps me in those bad days. So today I’m going to try and feel my feelings but not to ruminate in them. And to me, that’s a form of self care.
Anyways, as I was working on today’s post, I stopped and reread this post I wrote back in the summer of 2018. It honestly helped me refocus and realign my needs and wants, not necessarily for the season but for just today. I’m learning that that’s the trick, focusing on one day at a time when I’m living in my more dark days. So immediately after hitting publish on this post, I’m going to sit down and write my to-do list for the day, set realistic expectations for the next 12 hours, and I’m going to pat myself on the back when I need to.
