In the midst of a pandemic, we are facing a Civil Rights Movement. I spoke about being an ally to the Black community in June (read that post here) and in that post, I mentioned how I wanted to be a standing series here on FabAve. So here we are for the next installment of How to be an Ally.

At the very beginning of May, I shared simple ways to support small businesses (read that post here). COVID-19 is still a real thing and businesses are getting hit, hard. In an effort to use my site to raise awareness and introduce you to some great small shops, today’s post is going to be doing just that! If you’re educating yourself and doing the work to be anti-racists, great! In addition to donating, signing petitions, reading Black authors, I think it’s also important to support Black-owned businesses.

Over the last month or so, I’ve been introduced to some pretty great small shops, some of which I’ve purchased goods from. Below I’m including links to a few Black-owned businesses I’ve purchased from and a few that are on my list. If you’re financially able to, I implore you to do a little shopping of your own!

9 Black-owned Small Businesses to Support

1// Briogeo is one I’ve been shopping since starting my natural hair journey and it wasn’t until recently that I discovered they were a Black-owned business. In addition to their site, you can find their products on Amazon and Sephora! Personally, I’m a fan of the Don’t Despair, Repair!™ Deep Conditioning Hair Mask and the Avocado and Quinoa Co-wash.

2// Mielle Organics is another haircare brand I’ve been using for a little while and I’m loving! I like the Peony Leave-In Conditioner but also want to try the Pomegranate & Honey Curling Custard. You can find Mielle products on their site, your local Walmart, and on Amazon.

3// Shop Amber Richele carries the cutest tie-dye pieces EVER! I’m still browsing to see what items I’m going to be adding to my closet. Plus everything is handmade.

4// The Lip Bar carries some of my favorite liquid lipsticks! The formula is so moisturizing and long-lasting. I have the shades “Boy Trouble” and “Curl Friend.” You can shop via their direct site or at Target, too!

5// Humans Before Handles is a jewelry brand that carries some of the most beautiful pieces I’ve ever seen! I’m waiting on these Evil Eye earrings to arrive and I cannot be more exciting! Their statement earring collections are to die for!

6// The Love Spot KC has the cutest graphic tees! I snagged this tee and love it! It’s so soft and comfy. I’m also eyeing this ‘Mamacita’ tee. I’ll be showing it over on IG sometime this week, so keep a lookout!

7// I recently got Remy a Puzzle Huddle puzzle and it’s the cutest! They offer puzzles featuring diverse characters, from doctors to chemists to ballerinas, I love all of their puzzles.

8// ResinBySkyCreations offers the most beautiful resin keychains and earrings at a great price point. I got a keychain for Remy and I and can’t wait till they arrive.

9// Stella and Haas is another jewelry shop I’ve become obsessed with! My order should be arriving today and I’ll share on IG so stay tuned for that! I love that all her pieces are affordable and dainty!
