Words of Affirmation That Our Daughters Need to Hear

In an attempt to better myself as a momma, I want to do a better job at encouraging my mini me.

A few years ago I took the Love Language test to find out what my Love Language was. Initially, I thought my results would reveal that my Love Language was Receiving Gifts or Acts of Service. To my surprise, I found out my language is Words of Affirmation. Meaning that I appreciate expressions of love, i.e. verbal compliments were the most effective to show me you care.

I think children have the same type of Love Language, especially in this day and age. With everything going on in the world, I think kids, specifically girls, really need to hear words of affirmation in their every day. Without those encouraging words, the way they view themselves and the world can easily become jaded.

In complete vulnerability and honesty, I don’t know that I instill a feeling of worthiness in my daughter. Don’t get me wrong, I tell Remy she’s smart, that’s she’s beautiful, that she’s great just the way God made her often, but I know I could do a better job. She’s about to turn 7-years old in July, meaning she’s growing up way too quickly and soon enough I’m going to have a teenager on my hands.

I want her to walk out the door with her head held high because she knows her worth. Because it’s never too late to reevaluate my parenting style, I thought today I’d share some of the words and phrases I’m going to affirm Remy with in an attempt to hold myself accountable as a parent. If you’re looking to raise a confident and strong daughter, too, I think these words of affirmation can be helpful to you as well!
