Week 1 of social distancing/self-isolation/quarantine is coming to a close. Here’s how I spent the last few days and what I’m doing to stay sane.
Social distancing, a term that was recently coined and will forever be part of our lives. I don’t even know how to fully articulate how strange things are right now, but I’m sure you’re feeling as weird and helpless as I am. At this point, it is our civic duty to comply with all the social distancing recommendations. That’s my two cents. It is the easiest way for us to help our healthcare system and the best way to get things back to normal, at least for now. Today I thought I’d share a few things I’m doing while practicing social distancing. If you have any good tips, feel free to leave in the comments below!
4 Things I’m Doing While Social Distancing
1 // Working. Fabulously Average isn’t my main source of income (I wish), so I do have a legit full-time gig I have to do from home during this time of uncertainty. I set up a little work station on the kitchen table facing a big window and conduct business as usual, except from home.
2 // Organizing. Working from home can get a little stale. Not to mention, I’m not taking time to interact with coworkers like I would be if I were in the office, so taking a few moments to tackle an organization project is key for my sanity. Going through my makeup bag and tossing anything that’s expired or cleaning out the coat closet or giving the powder room a once over – whatever it is, it’s allowing me to unplug even if it’s just for a few minutes.
3 // Exercising. As a gym rat, foregoing the gym is hitting me hard. However, I’m finding ways to get my movement ring closed (Apple watch reference). When the weather is nice I go on runs or walks with Remy. MindBodyOnline.com is offering a 7-day free trial and the dance studio I frequent has given out an additional code for a month free once the original week trial runs out. I’m also finding quick and easy at-home workouts on Youtube and Instagram.
4 // Praying. My faith journey is something that’s always a work in progress. I’ve found that now more than ever, leaning into the gospel is a must. I’m listening to worship music while I work and actually trying to add entries to my gratitude journal. There is a positive to what the world is experiencing, we just have to find it.

As news develops and the world continues to evolve with what we’re dealing with, I’m sure my coping tactics and schedule will change. We’re all dealing with the unknown right now, and the only thing we can do is use this time to look for the good because it does exist.
