I feel like there’s something to be said about having confidence in this day and age. With social media and the constant need for more more more, feeling like a bad ass bitch in your own skin can be harder than it seems. I’m definitely speaking for myself when I say all of this. Growing up, I wasn’t always the most confident person – I looked different from my peers, I was awkward, and felt like my home life situation wasn’t like those around me. So I learned to fake confidence. Here I am, 34 years old and there are still times I need to fake it. Not all the time, but there are still days. I’ve had to grow into it, lean into being a confident person.

A readers recently asked where I get my confidence and that questions took me aback. Me, exuding confidence, there must be a mistake? I had to think about it for a second and I came to the silly, vein conclusion: a lot of days I feel most myself when I’m pulled together in an outfit I feel amazing in. The simplest task of putting effort in my outer appearance makes all the difference. That outer confidence somehow morphs into some inner good vibes. Personally, I think that’s what dressing for yourself does, it’s like the cherry on top for being the bad ass bitch I really are, I don’t have to fake it.
