I recently got asked about how I’m managing my new schedule with the new job. There has been a lot of change over in the FabAve house so to say I’m “managing” might be an overstatement. In reality I’m simply surviving but according to a few readers I’m apparently kicking ass and taking names. I’ll take it!
To be frank, I’m still in the process of making these recent changes into habits. What’s the statistic – it takes an average 66 days to create a habit? Let’s just say I’m slowly getting there, but as I take this journey I thought it would helpful to share some of the tips and tricks I’m implementing to better manage my work week.
4 Tips to Better Manage your Day and Look Put Together
// Wake up earlier. I know, I know, way easier said than done. And while I am a morning person, making the change to wake up at 5AM everyday has been a struggle of epic proportions. There has not been one day that I haven’t had to give myself a pep talk to get out of bed. It’s not easy but I promise this daily change will jump start your day in the best way possible! Note, this does mean you’ll have to also adjust the time you go to bed. This is another fight I’m having but I’ve found that the earlier I go to bed the easier it is for me to get up at the butt crack of dawn.
Because I’m spending my ‘not quite awake’ hours hitting it hard at the gym, when I get into the office I’m bright eyed and bushy tailed to those around me which I’m sure everyone appreciates. I’ve also noticed that I’m at my peak production hours and ready to take on my To-Do list by the time I’m walking through the office doors.
// Hit the gym in the morning. Surprisingly, this has been the hardest thing for me to do. Obviously this is piggy backing off of point #1 but I’ve come to learn that I really did enjoy working out in the evenings, so making this change has been a struggle. However there have been some great benefits, one of which is kick starting my day in the face! That ‘on top of the world’ feeling I used to get in the evenings has been pretty clutch in the mornings. Switching out my workout time has also helped jump start my metabolism and keeps me accountable about my food choices throughout the day.
I understand that not everyone has the ability to exercise in the morning, especially if you have to be in the office earlier (I have to be in the office by 9AM), but committing to at least 20 minutes of your morning to hyping up your endorphins will be a major game changer, I promise you!
// Plan your outfits. If you’re anything like me, what you wear for the day can have a major effect on your mood for the day. Weird, I know, but when I’m looking my best I’m more likely to put my best foot forward for the day. If I don’t at least have something in mind before I get dressed then my outfit lacks personality which is no bueno. Giving a thought to what I’m wearing for the day either while I’m working out, when I’m in the shower, or even the night before is a big time saver for me and can be one for you, too!
// Get your makeup routine down. While this may take some time to refine, I promise you’ll thank me later! I have my everyday makeup routine down to roughly 10 minutes but I’d really like to get that time down to 7. Whatever your everyday routine involves, I highly recommend doing just a little something, and if all else fails add a bold lip. You’ll be surprised by how many people will compliment you with a bold lip and almost nothing else.
