A Madewell denim try-on review, with a few sweaters and tops thrown in there too!

I’d been inching to do a Madewell try-on but I could never find the time to stop by one of my local stores to do a review. The brick and mortar locations by me are kind of out of the way so stopping in is usually a big to-do. However earlier this week I finally had some time to drop in and boy was not disappointed. It took every ounce in my body to no buy ALL THE THINGS – Madewell is just soo good! From the quality of their denim, to the rich fabrics and materials of their sweaters, it was really hard to walk out of there with just one thing. But I was on a mission not to over-spend and thankfully I left with my sole purpose – to bring you this try-on session and purchase a great pair of jeans!

Before I kick things off, I want to let you in on Madewell’s ‘Blue Jeans Go Green’ denim recycling program. All you have to do is bring in an old jeans to any of their stores (from any brand, decade or gender) and get $20 off a new pair of jeans! It’s that easy! The recycled jeans are then turned into housing insulation for communities in need, how freakin’ cool is that!

For sizing reference, I’m 5’8″ with a pear shape frame. I’m typically a S/M up top depending how I prefer the fit and wear 6-8/M for bottoms.

Belmont Mockneck Sweater – This was the coziest sweater EVER! The material was buttery soft, I felt like it melted on my skin it was so good. I loved the ribbed fabric and the fit is a bit boxy in the best way possible. Fit is true to size, I’m wearing a size small.

Slim Straight Jeans: Distressed Button-Front – The material of these jean, whoa, so stretchy! I love the button fly detail and these are less skinny jeans and more straight, which I liked. I’m wearing a regular and would have preferred the long because I felt like the hem hit me at a weird place on the ankles. Otherwise these are great! Fit is TTS, wearing a 28.

Gemma Mule in Leather – I am so upset they didn’t have my size in store because I would have totally gotten them. Y’all, I get the hype. These mules are so comfortable and look so go with all jeans! The leather is buttery soft! I would recommend going up a full size, the one’s I’m wearing here are a size 10, the size 9.5 would have fit perfectly.

Denim Seamed Button-Down Shirt – This shirt is on major sale (under $40!!) and it took all my might not to purchase. I love the feminine meets masculine feel and loved how cropped it was, it would pair great with high-waist denim. Wearing a small.

9″ High-Rise Skinny Jeans in Black Sea – If I was on the mission to buy black denim, these jeans would have come home with me! Sooo soft and stretchy and the raw hem adds the perfect little touch. I am a huge fan of these and couldn’t recommend them enough. TTS, wearing a size 28.

9″ High-Rise Skinny Jeans in Frankie Wash: Torn-Knee – If you’re looking for a great pair of distressed skinny jeans, get these NOW because they are on sale under $100! I love the light wash of these and the chewed hem. Again, if I was in the market for distressed jeans I would have snagged these. Runs true to size, wearing a size 28. photo IMG_5423_zpskvc8tjen.jpg

Eyelet Pom-Pom Top – I was kicking myself for not getting this top and then I went back and bought it! So darling with the eyelet yet the color would be great this time of the year. I’m also a fan of the neckline. So beautiful! This top also comes in white and is on sale for under $40! Fit is true to size, wearing a small.

9″ High-Rise Skinny Jeans in Paloma Wash: Raw-Hem – So as I mentioned, I was on the hunt for the perfect skinny jeans and by golly I found them with these! Praise! I love where the length hits on my ankle and the fact that these have a raw hem that could be rolled up for tall booties. The fit was fantastic, tho I sized down to a size 27. The wash is a good in-between, which I was also looking for. These are major winners in my book!

Leopard Dot Pullover Sweater – I love the Dalmatian dots of this sweater, so cute! The quilted fabric and oversized sleeves are great too, but note that it is a wool mix and there is a bit of an itch but nothing too annoying. Fit is a bit oversized, wearing a small.

Cali Demi-Boot Jeans in Comfort Stretch: Eco – I really wanted to like these because Karla made them look so cool but they are not for my body type. These were a little too cropped and there isn’t much stretch to the fabric so the size 28 felts really snug. Update: I spoke to Karla and she did go with the Tall options so maybe I should have tried that, LOL.

Stanza Ruffle-Hem Top in Stripe – This top is so pretty and easy, I love it! The vertical stripes, the peplum, the airy fabric – might snag this up when it goes on sale. Fit is true to size, I’m wearing a small.

9″ High-Rise Skinny Jeans in Cold Blue Wash – These were good but I already knew I wanted something with a raw hem so I passed. Great stretch and give and the hem length was perfect for me (I’m 5’8″). Fit is true to size, wearing a 28. There was a little gapping in the back which could probably been remedied by sizing down.
