Lauren Conrad. The Martha Stewart of a younger generation. She created a brand, a lifestyle, and doesn’t show signs of slowing down anytime soon. I’ve followed the entrepreneur from her days in reality T.V. to establishing her fashion and lifestyle empire and admire the way she’s carved out her place in the industry. I love that she’s done it all with class and grace so today I thought I’d share a few life lessons Miss Conrad has taught me along the way.
Being an entrepreneur means a lot of things, but mainly it means you decide your fate by the work you put into it. When she first debuted her clothing line there were a lot of skeptics and she received plenty of negative reviews from the industry. She didn’t let that stop her or deter her from what she wanted to do. She continued on despite the skeptics and made a name for herself outside of her reality T.V. past.
Started from the bottom now your here. From snapping pictures of models at a casting calls to fetching your bosses coffee, Lauren Conrad took her licks because she knew she had to do the grunt work to establish a foundation, a work ethic.
Don’t underestimate the power of the perfect winged cat eye. Creating a signature something (whether beauty, style, or work ethic) makes it memorable which in turns makes you memorable.
You must relate to the masses to create for the masses. She defined her style aesthetic and used that – the girl next door style – to forge her fashion empire. Sure, she’s got her high-end brand brewing in the background but her bread and butter is her affordable collaborations with titan brands like Kohl’s. That’s what’s bringing in the big bucks – serving to the every girl.
Always look your best. If you look great you feel great! It’s as simple as that.
You won’t always please everyone and you’ve gotta be okay with that. Accept it and move on. The longer you dwell on the negativity of others the harder it is to please yourself.
And lastly, always choose Paris. Because duh. Lauren Conrad learned this lesson the hard way but in the process learned that we can all recover from our mistakes.
Thanks LC for teaching me lessons in fashion, love and life and for paving the way for a new type of woman.
