Theodore – One Month Old

Last Friday, Master Mason turned one month old! Just like I’d done with Remy, I’ll be chronicling Theo’s growth here on the blog. I love that I can look back at Remy’s first 2 years and reminisce on how tiny she was! I also love that I was able to capture her milestones here on Fabave so it was only natural that I’d do the same for Mr. Theodore. Also, be prepared for his birth story in the next few weeks!

Routine: Too early to have an established routine in our day but the little man has the standard eat, sleep and poop down to a science. I’m in the process of extending his awake time so that we can stretch the length in between feedings, otherwise we spend our days cuddling and working on strengthening his neck muscles with tummy time.

Napping/Sleeping: I am currently wrapping up a post dedicated to Theo’s sleeping habits but in short we are still mastering this necessity. I wouldn’t consider him a poor sleeper/napper but like his sister, he prefers sleeping in my arms. This obviously cramps my sleeping style which is why I’ve really been working on different ways on helping him self-sooth. There are a few standout products that have helped the process, specifically this swaddle blanket , but again I’ll discuss this more in a later post.

For his nighttime sleep, the little guy is as good as an infant can be, I guess. Theo typically sleeps between 2 to 3 hours and if we’re lucky we can stretch it out to 4! Those are good nights!

Eating: Homeboy is exclusively breastfeeding right now. I’ve only had to supplement a few times and that didn’t seem to phase him, which is good to know for future reference. He took to a bottle rather well which is comforting for when I go back to work in a few weeks. Theo eats every 2 hours, sometimes 3 if we extend his awake time and then put him down for a nap.

Unfortunately my little man has acid reflux which we did not experience with Remy so this is new territory for us. He’s not necessarily spitting up often but it’s causing congestion and some breathing issues when he’s on his back. The doctor suggested propping him up a little when he sleeps and has given us something to hopefully help the reflux.

Growth/Health: The tiny dude weighed 7 pounds 7 ounces when he was born and was 20 ½ inches long. Naturally he dropped a few pounds the first few days after birth, 5% of his birth weight to be exact but he’s plumping up! At his one month check-up he weighed a whopping 9 lbs 5 oz. and measured 22 inches long.

He also got his second Hep B shot at his check-up. Poor guy screamed his little head off, it broke my heart. At his next appointment I believe he’ll be getting four vaccines so that’ll be heart wrenching.

Also, Theodore’s has had a bad bout of baby acne. The doctor said it’s nothing we should concern ourselves with but did give me a prescription for a fungal cream that should help clear it up. Will report back on the progress next month.

Social:

  • Theo has blonde eyelashes and eyebrows.
  • He’s as active/fidgety as he was in my tummy. Homeboy is always movin’ and grovin’!
  • He is constantly being smothered with kisses from both me and his big sister!
  • He has quite the gentleman’s wardrobe! Seriously, little dude will be looking quite dapper.
  • For those that have been asking, these are our favorite bandana bibs. So cute and stylish!
