Budgeting Shopping

A January Spending Story

So let me begin with saying that I’m not sure how to define this post. It’s inspired by Fran’s infamous budget posts, however without a job and a constant flow of income I don’t think I can consider this that. So I also incorporated Jill’s concept of her Damage posts. Whether or not this will be a monthly share I’m not sure, but I do like to see a breakdown of what I’m bringing in my closet and can use these posts to evaluate how I use abuse my money. Also note, most of these items (if not all) were purchased with Christmas money, so it wasn’t completely mindless shopping. Here goes nothing…

Total Spent:$230.65 (saved:$234.95)

Thoughts on my purchases: My obsession with stripes has apparently hit an all-time high. It is both glorious yet completely unnecessary I know, but I just couldn’t pass those deals up (shopaholic red flag!). However in my defense they are all a little different from one another. The mix-stripe tee (worn here) is a pretty Carolina blue color and has the whole contrast stripe sleeves going for it; the fluid stripe tee (worn here) has navy stripes and a defined collar; and the Loft tee (worn but not blogged) is primarily black with white stripes and has ¾ length sleeves. I can and will justify anything!

I probably could have gone without the black skinny jeans (worn here, here and here) since I have a great high-waist pair (worn here and here) and a new distressed pair (worn here) but the slim fit is per-fec-tion. Those black skinnies are this months’ MVP – Most Valuable Purchase. No regrets! My husband also thought the toggle coat (worn here and here) was unnecessary since he just gifted me this coat for Christmas but I loved the pop of color, plus VA winters are nothing to play with and a girl needs options;) The F21 turtleneck sweater (worn here and here, among other times just check Instagram!) deserves an honorable mention for becoming a wardrobe workhorse. And the Loft sweater (worn here) was totally an impulse buy and while I do love it I could have done without.

Lastly, the ascetic for the 10% off I received for the plaid tunic (worn here) was because I brought a small tear to the cashiers attention. I thought I’d try to see if I got a discount and it’s something I can fix myself.

I would love your input! Is this something you’d like me to share on a monthly basis?
